FULL RESULTS – SATURDAY, MAY 6TH 2023

QUINCY, Mich. – A brief rain shower mid-afternoon didn’t stop opening night at Butler Motor Speedway as the track kicked off its 71st season Saturday night with a full field of cars and a packed grandstand.

Visitors to the track were treated to additional improvements this season as Tim Wilber and his family continue to make improvements. Those improvements included a wider track surface, allowing drivers extra room to search for the perfect line high or low.

This season the track’s four weekly divisions, the Pell’s Tire Service 410 Sprints, MAGALIFT UMP Modified division, Elite General Contracting Street Stock division and RPM Trucking four-cylinder division will compete weekly as they race for the season championship in mid-September.

Saturday night’s main events began with a wild MAGALIFT UMP Modified feature event which saw 20 cars take the green flag. Chad Bauer, of Farwell, Michigan, took home the checkered flag holding off a hard charging Jeff Erickson Jr. in the closing laps.

The modified feature saw some hard racing between the top-notch competitors, which led to some heated tempers and several cautions. Butler weekly drivers Tyler Morehouse, Josh Lolmaugh and Logan Beckwith IV took third, fourth and fifth. Last year’s track champion Rick Swartout battled an ill handling car throughout the night but came home in the top ten.

The Pell’s Tire Service 410 Sprint Car division saw a stout field of 16 cars take the green flag. Coldwater’s Tylar Rankin jumped to an early lead and never looked back as he held off challenges from fellow Coldwater native Ryan Ruhl and Max Stambaugh from Elida, Ohio.

Josh Turner the 2022 track champion wasn’t in action Saturday night.

It was an emotional celebration in victory lane after Kody Conner, of Wheatfield, Indiana took the checkered flag leading the Elite General Contracting Street Stock A-Main from the drop of the green flag. The Conner family were brought to tears bringing home a win in the first race back to the track after the passing of Kory Conner, Kody’s twin brother. Kory, who fielded the family number 12C street stock alongside his brother passed away March 11, 2023.

Conner battled with 2022 track champion Eric Swan for the win.

The final race of the night saw Ryan Crocker of Mishawaka take home the win in the RPM Trucking Four-Cylinder division. Crocker and 2022 track champion Cody Kipp battled throughout the race, but Kipp couldn’t find a way around Crocker’s white and red camouflaged number 3.

This year the track will be recognizing the fast qualifiers in each of the divisions with the Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts Fast Time award. Leading each of their divisions was Tylar Rankin in the sprint car division, Dillon Nusbaum in the UMP Modified division, Kody Conner in the street stock division and Ryan Crocker in the four-cylinder division.

This Saturday night, May 13th, the Midwest Dirt Compact Touring Series will join the street stocks, sprints and UMP Modified divisions. The traveling series will be in action Friday night at I-96 Speedway to open their season before traveling to Butler on Saturday. Each event will pay $500 to win and $100 to start for the Midwest Dirt Compact Touring Series event. The Butler four-cylinder regulars will do battle against the touring series drivers. Joining the racing action will be stuntman, power boat racer and Mint 400 racer Jim York.
